Description Technical Specs

How many strings of inandescent mini lights have you thrown away during your lifetime? Typically that string of 100 will have half the lights out. No amount of beating, screaming or twisting will get those dark lights to go bright. Even though it's a hassle, you've resigned yourself to just buying new strings of lights every year. You've fallen into the manufacturers trap! They don't want you fixing those old strings if you'll buy new strings instead. Pretty clever, huh?

Typically a string of mini-lights will go bad because of a broken lead outside the bulb or a non-working shunt on the inside of the bulb. There are several products on the market ranging in price from $5-$25 and most work on the easy fixes. It's the tough ones to fix that end up costing you time and money.

Christmas Done Bright has a great little product custom built for them in China. Plug in a string of minilights, punch the big button on the front and typically one of two things will happen. Suddenly the dark part of the light string will start working or you'll hear a buzzing sound. What this magic box does is send a high frequency but low current jolt of electricity into the light string. If there's a bad shunt inside one of the bulbs, the shunt will fuse closed and the lights start working. If the wire lead to the bulb is broken, the high frequency will start jumping the gap, you'll hear it and quickly pinpoint where the problem exists. This product has been a lifesaver more times than can be counted at Planet of Lights and PlanetChristmas.

It's highly recommended for the over-the-top display enthusiast. One note of caution: this device only works on incandescent mini-light strings and is not designed for LED based light strings.

Light Tester September 7, 2008

This is a great product and the folks at Christmas Done Bright are super people to do  business with. Be aware that this tester will check a maxium of 100 lights at a time. If you have half of a 100 light set that is not working you will need to take a bulb out of out of the half that is working in order to find the problem. On anything up to 50 light sets you just plug it in and press the red button. It has saved me considerable time and is well worth the money!
